My research near the U.S.-Mexico border in Sonora, Mexico examines adaptation to climate change and water scarcity, migration in the context of economic crisis and environmental change, home processing of agricultural products and social networks, and gender, agriculture and the environment. My research in Tucson examines the Tucson Urban Canopy and responses at the household, neighborhood and city level to climate change, the urban heat island and water resource scarcity. This project, funded by the Bureau of Reclamation, is being carried out with team members Steve Yool (SGD) and Christopher Scott (Udall Center and SGD) and SGD graduate students Eleanor McCallum and Ashley Smeltzer and intern Francisco Alvarado.
